Just another example of how companies blatantly use corrupt practices and when caught, pay the fine and everything goes on as usual! This case is alarming - the settlement was made in such a way that all evidence against BAE was not to be disclosed. As said in the article - is this a win for honesty?!
I sometimes feel all this is somehow justified - to live practically, large corporations will bribe - and the honest common folk will get cheated - but this author has nicely put all this in perspective. This same money could have been used for vital Aids medicines. This is when the reality hits home. As someone recently told me - the crashes in the economy are sure to happen cyclically - because there's a huge cash economy that never gets reported anywhere. And it routinely flies from assets to commodities to share markets...
India's GDP could easily be 5 times if all corruption could just be put to a stop - but then that's wishful thinking - or is it?
On another note - its not surprising the Tony Blair was involved in this one too. Just waiting for him to get tried in the World Human Rights Court for his involvement in the Iraq War... but then that's another story.
