What does zany's zen mean?!

Well... was thinking of a place to put my travelogue and snaps on... after going through a lot of options, feel this is a better place.

Of course, as it is a blog, I guess over time I will post my thoughts too... but coming to the topic in question - why such a name?! First the meanings...

Zany

–adjective
1.ludicrously or whimsically comical; clownish.
–noun
2.one who plays the clown or fool in order to amuse others.
3.a comically wild or eccentric person.
4.a secondary stock character in old comedies who mimicked his master.
5.a professional buffoon; clown.
6.a silly person; simpleton.
7.a slavish attendant or follower.

I guess I need to clarify... I am no buffoon. But the name has become second nature for me, especially online. Ages back my bro, my best friend and me started an online website - zany zine. The name has stuck since then.

Of course that name has its own history. We had started an e-zine and wanted something to go with zine. So we sat with the dictionary and went through all the words starting with letter 'z'! And chanced upon zany. Hence was born Zany Zine. It went off well for quite some time. But after a point, interest waned and the site came to its natural death.

But I stuck on with the name and use it for most of my online avatars.

That explains the first part... And by now you must have guessed how the 'zen' part came through.

Being a blog, this place will be where I put down my thoughts. So wanted something which goes with zany... and what better than zen! Of course, I don't think my thoughts are so philosophical... but well if it goes with the flow, what's the harm.

From all the dictionary meanings, it seems only the one referring to zen as jargon meant somewhat with what I have to say:

zen jargon
To figure out something by meditation or by a sudden flash of enlightenment. Originally applied to bugs, but occasionally applied to problems of life in general. "How'd you figure out the buffer allocation problem?" "Oh, I zenned it."

The rest of the meanings you can check here:

While we are on the meanings, one thing I always liked was to go etymological - hehe - no wait I'll give you the meaning - it means going to the source of where the words came from. And surprise surprise - you know where the word zen is reported to have evolved from?!

Origin:
Japan - M. Chin, equiv. to Chinese "Chan" - transliteration of Pali "Jhana" - Sanskrit "Dhyana"

Well, enough ramblings for now. Will be posting my snaps and travelogue to Uttarakhand soon...

Ciao.
